Facilities at St Thomas More

 

St Thomas More Catholic CollegeThe College occupies a pleasant 20 acre site with its own extensive playing fields, tennis courts and all-weather pitch. The College has its own Chapel with Chaplain's room. We have first class specialist facilities for IT, Science, Technology, Art, Music and PE. Sixth Form students have their own Common Room and facilities including computer facilities and separate study area.

 

In recent years the following were added to the College facilities:

  • Extra computer suites and new network
  • Library resource area with computing facilities
  • Sixth Form facilities
  • Music and Performing Arts building
  • New 12 classroom block
  • New toilet block
  • 50 electronic whiteboards
  • New resource room with video conferencing facilities
  • Angels’ Walkway
  • Refurbished P.E. Block
  • Conference facilities
  • Sensory garden know as 'Sam’s Garden'

In September 2001 the college extended its computer facilities as part of the Excellence in Cities programme. St Thomas More is one of eight mini City Learning Centres. In September 2002 a £1 million building programme was completed to replace the temporary mobile classrooms which have been on site for 28 years. Also in September 2002 two of the science laboratories, were refurbished.

 

The College has undergone refurbishment as part of the City’s PFI contract.

 

In July 2003 a new toilet block for students was opened. Refurbishment of the College entrance was also completed in August 2003.

 

In 2004 a new all-weather sports field was laid and new tennis courts built. The remaining two science laboratories were refurbished.

 

A new covered area at the heart of the College was completed in 2006. This area is called ‘Angels’ Walkway’.

During Autumn 2008, the College expects to complete an extension to the Physical Education building. This extension includes a fully equipped fitness room as well as an extra classroom.

 

In 2009 a conference centre was established.
