A brief history

 

St Thomas More Catholic CollegeSt Thomas More was established in 1980 as a 12 to 18 Comprehensive school following the re organisation of Roman Catholic Education in the Stoke on Trent and Newcastle under Lyme areas.

 

The College underwent a second re organisation in 1983 when the Stoke on Trent area lost its Middle Schools and the College became an 11 - 18 Comprehensive School.

 

In January 1993 the College was incorporated as a Grant Maintained school. The College is affiliated to the Technology College Trust.

 

From September 1999 the College returned to Voluntary Aided status as a member of the Stoke on Trent secondary school provision.

 

The College is a partner in the city-wide Excellence in Cities partnership.

 

In September, 2004 the College received Specialist Status in Maths and Computing.

 

In September, 2005 the College was selected to become involved in the National Creativity Partnership.

 

In 2008 The College was designated a Specialist College, following its fine OFSTED report.

 

In 2009 the College has been recognised as a High Performance Specialist School, and as acquired a 2nd specialism, that of a Training School.
